Studio, rules and generate
In the Studio you decide how your collection comes out. You set how common each trait is, keep traits apart with rules, pin the pieces you want to design yourself, and check that it all works. Then you generate, and keep the seed.
Everything on this page works on the testnet app today. None of it costs anything: it all runs in your browser.
Tune rarity
Section titled “Tune rarity”Each layer opens as a board of its own art, with one slider per trait.
- Open a layer in the Studio.
- Drag a trait’s slider. You see its share and its piece count, for example ”≈ 20 of 1,000”. The other traits in the layer make room, so the layer still adds up to 100%.
- Press Even out to give every trait in the layer the same share.
- Press From file names to go back to the weights in your file names (
Blue#40.png). This button only shows up once you have moved away from them.
Want an exact number instead of odds? Open a trait and set Exactly, At least or At most. A trait set to an exact count holds still while you drag the rest.
Add rules
Section titled “Add rules”Rules work on every piece the generator makes. You write them in the Rules tab. There are two kinds:
- Never combine. “Never combine Body: Triangle with Hat: Crown.” No piece gets both.
- If … then. “If Eyes is Laser, Background must be Gold or Pink.” Whenever the first trait shows up, the second layer can only use the traits you list.
You can also let KURV suggest rules:
- Open the Rules tab and press Suggest rules.
- KURV measures the pixels in your trait images. It suggests rules for three things only: a trait that fully hides another, hair that rises above the top of a hat, and an eyeball or the inside of a mouth that doesn’t fill the opening above it. The hat and eye checks need the person layout’s layer names. The hidden-trait check works on any layout.
- Read each suggestion. It shows its numbers, like “Beanie hides 100% of Mohawk”.
- Accept them one at a time, or all at once.
A suggestion you skip comes back next time, because the pixels that caused it are still there. After you redraw art, press Measure again. It updates or drops the measured rules whose cause is gone, and leaves the rules you wrote alone. KURV never suggests rules about colour or style. Those are yours to write.
Rules cut down the number of possible pieces. The check tells you when you have cut too many.
Pin pieces
Section titled “Pin pieces”Pin a piece when you want to pick its traits yourself.
- Open the Pinned tab and press Pin a piece.
- Give it a name. This is the only required field. It replaces the numbered name everywhere the piece shows up.
- Pick its traits, one layer at a time. Leave any layer on random.
- Set a token number if you want one, such as #1. Leave it blank and the shuffle places the piece.
- Add a description if you want one.
Pinned pieces count toward your supply. Ask for 1,000 with 10 pinned and you get 990 random pieces plus your 10. No random piece can match a pinned one, because pinned combinations are taken out of the pool first. A pinned piece gets its rarity from its traits like any other piece, so an ordinary pin is an ordinary piece.
A pinned piece still has to follow your rules. If it breaks one, the check names it.
Run the check
Section titled “Run the check”Open the Check tab before you generate. It tells you if the collection you asked for can’t be made. For example: more pieces than combinations, an exact count your rules make impossible, or a pinned piece that breaks a rule.
| Colour | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | No problems. Go ahead and generate. |
| Red | A problem. Generate stays off until you fix it. |
| Yellow | A warning. You can still generate, but read it first. |
| Blue | A note, not a problem. |
Most problems come with a “Fix:” line that names what to change.
Generate and keep the seed
Section titled “Generate and keep the seed”- Press Generate on the Check tab. Your browser builds every piece. You see progress and can cancel.
- Copy the seed from the Generate screen and keep it somewhere safe.
- Browse the results. Rarity ranks start at 1, the rarest piece. Use Rarest first to sort.
- Press Download a copy. You get a ZIP with every image, a label file for each piece, and a manifest with the seed and your settings.
The same seed with the same layers and settings rebuilds the same collection, piece for piece. To get a set back, press Rebuild from a seed and paste in the seed. If your layers or settings changed since that build, the rebuild says what changed and won’t run.
The fingerprint is made when you publish, not when you download. You see it on the Generate screen after publishing.
Don’t regenerate after you publish. A new seed makes a different collection.
Swap out a piece
Section titled “Swap out a piece”Don’t like one piece? Press Swap out a piece, then tap it and press Build a different one. You get a different piece, still unique in the set. If the piece is pinned, the traits you pinned stay and the rest is redrawn.
Keep in mind:
- After a swap, the seed alone no longer rebuilds this set. Download or publish the build to keep it.
- If you already published, a swap means publishing again.
- Once you launch, swaps are refused. Minting opens as soon as the collection’s contract exists, and people can already buy that art.
